Ely Tigers travelled down the A142 to Newmarket, once they'd got pass the traffic lights at "Ben's Yard" on the A142 that appeared for now reason, for the second A142 Derby of the season, Tigers were forced to make changes from the previous weeks win over Bury 2s, which saw a reshuffle across the field.
On 7 minutes Ely got off the worse start possible as they went to 14 men as Alfie Allen was shown a yellow card, but despite this start, Newmarket, couldn't make the advantage pay, and it was Tigers that made the breakthrough, as Scott Macfarlane, going over in the corner, leaving a difficult kick into the cross wind for Matt McCarthy, the conversion was missed, the game sparked into life, as on 33 minutes Newmarket were back in the game, as they score their first try of the afternoon, and with the added conversion they led 7-5, moments later they'd scored again, with a quickly taken penalty, which caught Ely off guard as Newmarket crashed pass the Ely back line to score, unable to add the conversion they lead 12-5
As half time approached they was still time for the home side to score again,
On the stark of half time a missed placed pass from a Ely line out on the half way line saw Newmarket break again to score their 3rd try, conversion missed, a Penalty to Ely, saw McCarthy score as the half closed with the home side 17-8 ahead.
Start of the second half, saw Matt French charge down a kicked clearance, on hand was Lory Martin, who was able to pick up the ball to score, with McCarthy adding the the conversion to close the gap to 2 points, Newmarket added another try, this time a well worked one, as they broke down on the left hand side of the pitch, they spotted the winger out on the right in space, a prefect placed cross field kick finds the winger who picks up the ball to score.
Back came Tigers once more, from a line out to Ely, they mange to drive the ball close to the try line, they spread the ball out to the wing, where Luke Turner picked up the ball to score, to once gain close the gap, but no sooner had they done this, another mistake and misplaced pass saw the hand the points to the home side, as Newmarket once more broke free to score, another penalty to Tigers saw McCarthy add another 3 points as he scored, as full time approached and Ely pushing the home side back, both sides were reduced to 14, after a coming together of both sides, with plenty of pushing and shoving, which resulted in Matt French ending the game on the sidelines along with the Newmarket player, there was no further score to the game, as the home side recorded a 29-23 final score
